RNAS Yeovilton Air Day 2013

Few events can rival the intensity, drama and spectacle on offer at the Royal Navy’s premier air show. The Air Day, one of the Southwest’s largest one day events, will return this summer with an action-packed day out for all the family. Alongside the thrilling flying display there’s plenty to see and do on the ground – so whether you’re a wide-eyed first timer or a seasoned air show veteran, the experience will be incredible.

With the event regularly attracting over 30,000 visitors, significant UK and foreign military participation and support from the world’s leading aerospace companies, Air Day continues to build on its success. The show won Gold in the ‘Event of the Year’ category at the South West Tourism Excellence Awards 2012-13 following on from the Silver award from last year.

Planning is already well under way and invitations to foreign countries to participate with their aircraft have all been sent out. The spectacular 5 hour flying display will feature fast jets, historic warbirds, helicopters, formation display teams, aerobatics and will culminate with the world renowned Commando Assault Finale featuring troops, aircraft and pyrotechnics galore! Throughout the day there will be plenty of entertainment on the ground for all the family including side shows, funfair, vintage, classic and military vehicles, service demonstrations, military bands, picnic areas, helicopter pleasure flights, simulator rides, trade stands and much, much more.

Recreation Park Opening Family Fun Day and Evening Live Music

Creech St Michael Parish Council are holding a grand opening event with something for all ages and all the family. Local stalls, stands, demonstrations and the Taunton Town Training Band performing it promises to be a lovely afternoon. In the evening we welcome you back for dancing til late, with a hog roast and bar and the play equipment flood lit as well as children's activities and entertainment.

St Margaret's Summer Fair

Come along to St Margaret's Hospice in Taunton on Saturday 29th June for our annual Summer Fair. Stalls, entertainment and refreshments all in the beautiful surroundings of the hospice gardens and meadow. Featuring Star Wars UK Garrison, BBQ, Vintage Vehicles, Magician, Morris Dancers and much more. All welcome - entry just £1 and under 16s go free. Open Garden at Glebe Court

The beautiful garden at Glebe Court will be opening to the public on Sunday 9th June in support of St Margaret's Hospice. There will be unusual plants to discover as well as a plant stall and cream teas/refreshments. Entry costs just £3 (under 16s go free.) No dogs apart from assistance dogs. There is disabled access to part of the garden.

LEO BLANCO - world-class New York jazz pianist

Direct from headlining Gateshead's ultra-cool Sage arts complex and Glasgow's International Jazz Festival, the world-famous jazz pianist performs a secret intimate gig on the Quantocks to warm-up for international jazz festivals. Leo grew up in Venezuala surrounded by folklore, jazz, classical music and pop. No surprise then, his virtuoso superbly soulful improvisations are rooted in his homeland's Africa-Latina rhythms. His music is also enriched by a deep knowledge of jazz.

Compass Fire Walking Challenge

Supporters of Taunton based charity, Compass Disability Services and other good causes will be walking over hot coals to raise money for the good cause of their choice. No special effects, no gimmicks, just bare feet, a bucket full of courage and the hot coals heated to 800 degrees.
